Coaching Bio

Accredited FIH Level 3 Coach & Coach Educator, and Hockey Australia Advanced Coach with a degree in Exercise and Movement Science. Currently employed as a TAFE QLD Educator teaching Cert II in Sports Coaching (Hockey) as well as delivering FIH Coach Courses with the FIH Academy, and was previously the Member Development Manager at Brisbane Women's Hockey Association, Hockey Queensland. In 2023 I was awarded the Hockey Queensland Pathway Coach of The Year, and am currently the QLD U18 Women's Head Coach.

I've played hockey since I was 4 years old and fell in love with the sport. Since a young age I immersed myself in all facets of it - playing, coaching, selecting and umpiring - and had a desire to be able to excel in every area. I attended university and studied a Bachelor in Exercise and Movement Science, all while further up-skilling myself as a local coach. During my degree, a job opportunity presented itself with Brisbane Women's Hockey Association as a Development Officer, and have formally worked in hockey since. I currently deliver coach courses with the FIH Academy, and teach certificates II & IV in Sports Coaching (Hockey) with TAFE QLD. I've coached multiple Brisbane and Queensland teams, gained national and international coaching qualifications and have been fortunate enough to travel Australia and internationally. Career highlights have been winning Gold at the U17 Mirnawan Cup in Malaysia with the U17 Australian All Stars, winning Gold U18 Nationals in 2023, Gold at U13 Nationals in 2017, Silver at U18 Nationals in 2022, Bronze at U21 Nationals in 2022, Bronze at U15 Nationals in 2018 & 2021, attending the Oceania Cup as a participant in the FIH Level 3 & Coach Educator courses in 2019, being awarded the 2023 Hockey Queensland Pathway Coach of the Year, 2023 BWHA Most Promising Coach, 2019 Hockey Queensland Pathway Coach of The Year and last year attending the Hockey Australia Futures Camp, working with the junior national coaches. Amy was brilliant with my Daughter. Amazing eye for detail and very good at explaining subtle changes that need to be made. Amy manages to share her knowledge very well and Isla really enjoys the time spent. Thanks Amy!!

My daughter loved her sessions with Amy. She is able to break skills down into simple, step by step instructions which are very easy to understand. She also has a wonderful ability to connect, and build confidence. I would not hesitate to recommend Amy to any hockey player looking to improve.

Amy was great, very punctual and professional. The girls had a great session with her and learnt lots. The girls said they liked receiving the feedback from Amy. Amy had great drills in place and was well organised.

Amy's extensive coaching experience, combined with her degree in exercise physiology, means she is deeply aware of the biomechanics needed for high quality hockey skills. Minor tweaks as advised by her have made substantial differences to the quality and level of skills being executed. I highly recommend Amy!
